Laura Linney has been hailed as one of America's most well-known actors. Linney is renowned for playing strong characters who are also fragile. Born to a well-known playwright's father but raised by a single mother, who earned her living as a nurse, she began to take an interest in theater while working with her father during the summer, eventually studying acting, first in Brown University and then at Juilliard School. After just two short years following graduation she began her Broadway-based career. The following year she made her debut on film and television. In the years since, she's appeared in countless films and TV and stage productions. She has been nominated for three Oscar Awards, five Tony Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and received several awards during her career. Although she received many awards over the years, theater has always been her first passion.
